Ava Albright, Swain High senior, won first place in WCU’s 2025 High School Creative Writing contest in the Poetry category for her poem "Where I'm From," which she wrote for Mr. Cutler’s Creative Writing class.
Every year, WCU, in conjunction with the Spring Literary Festival, hosts a High School Creative Writing contest in the categories of Poetry, Fiction, and Creative Nonfiction—with generous cash prizes for the winners and runners-up. The contest is open to all high school students throughout NC, and WCU receives hundreds of submissions from across the state. Her achievement was recognized on Tuesday, April 8 at WCU.
